Health Check Ups for the whanau
Te Rununga o Raukawa had offered to bring the new mobile health unit to the marae gala. This was well supported during the day. Our thanks go to Te Rununga but in particular to Hinga Gardiner and Sharlene Davis both from Ngati Wehi Wehi who manned the vehicle during the day.
The Wood Chopping Competition
This gala and the wood chopping have been doing this togther since the very first gala was held. We continue to be supported by our local axeman who provide entertainment to our visitors each year. The men play hard but enjoy a good kai and drink at the end of the day after the mahi.
Food, Food, and more Food !!!!
Ngati Wehi Wehi have a number of stalls during the day that feed the masses. In this photo Errol Ruruku was selling chow mein in the green tent and Jerry and Paddy Jacobs were selling sausages and paua fritters in the stripe tent.
The major attraction is the hangi that sells for only $6.00. This has been the same price for the last ten years. Maybe we should discuss a price increase?
